Course Information
Description This course is an exploration of the purposes and processes in the visual and performing arts (such as music, painting, architecture, drama, and dance) and the ways in which they express the values of cultures and human experience.
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies ACADEMIC HONESTY:  Academic honesty is expected from all students. Cheating, plagiarism, or collusion will not be tolerated in any form under any circumstances. Plagiarism is defined as “taking and using as one's own the writings or ideas of another.” Any student caught cheating or plagiarizing or aiding another student in cheating or plagiarizing on a quiz, test, individual assignment, or examination may be summarily dropped from the class with a grade of “F.”
 
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE:  Disruptive behavior and profanity will not be tolerated. Students should be respectful to one another.
 
LATE WORK POLICY: An essay or assignment will not be accepted after a week with 5 points deducted each day it is late, and the student will receive a zero after a week has passed. (Day 1 late: -5, Day 2 late: -10, Day 3 late: -15 and continues until after a week when it will become a zero)
Students, whether they are present or not, are responsible for completing and turning in all assignments and for finding out what they missed.  Students should check to see if any changes were made to the course outline.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT HOMEWORK: Much of the time in this class your homework will be to read from the textbook/PowerPoints. Please understand that "Read" means "READ, STUDY, AND UNDERSTAND." AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT NOTETAKING: Don't depend on your memory; take copious notes!

Attendance Policy Students are required to attend and check-in to class at least twice a week, which is demonstrated in discussion posts, assignments, and viewings of PowerPoints and materials placed in the folders of the course.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
